The maniacs fine women at Yarn Cravin' have sucked me into graciously invited me to join a new knit-along group. They are calling it the Sock Blanket KAL and Swap. Many people are knitting the ubiquitous mitered diamonds blanket, but you can also knit the ten stitch blanket, the ten stitch twist, or the ten stitch triangle. Personally, I think one of the Fan Shawls I just finished might also be a good option for someone who is daunted by the bigger projects.
The heroin-like exciting part about this KAL is you have the option each month to purchase a bundle of 5g mini-skeins of sock yarn in many colors. Each month's bundle will feature a different yarn - the first month is Fannie's Fingering weight. Check out these little beauties!
You aren't obligated to purchase every month's bundle, but you have first dibs if you are in the club. This could get really scary really fast.
While I was admiring my new little skeins, I was also feeling guilty about the sock yarn UFO that is lurking in my closet. Anybody remember this?
So...here's the deal. I have to finish this blanket before I can start any new sock yarn projects. If I remember correctly, I had a couple more skeins to go and then I was going to call it good. As soon as the coral frankensweater is done, I will investigate the situation.
Speaking of the coral sweater, it has a new color. After an extensive poll of innocent bystanders, I bought one skein of this dark green to finish the bottom.
One more lace repeat and I think it will be long enough. Not sure of my sleeve plan yet. I might just do an i-cord bindoff in the green and call it good.
It was pointed out to me today that my sweater is in watermelon colors and if I sewed on black watermelon seed buttons, it would be SO cute. Enthusiasm for this plan was dampened by my pointing out that I am not, in fact, a four year old girl.I spun like a fiend last weekend, inspired by yummy fiber that was waiting for me when I got home from the beach.
This is superwash merino in color "Wine Cellar" from Susan's Kitchen and I ordered 4 oz quite awhile ago. I had kind of forgotten about it when I got an email from the Etsy shop owner apologizing that my email had been missed and she was getting some fiber out to me soon. I thought "cool" and forgot about it again. Then a big package showed up. To thank me for my patience, she sent me 8 oz!!!
I spun and plied the first four ounces and I have two more ounces on the bobbin. Have to spin up the last bit and then ply it. Looks like it will be worsted weight and I should get about 260 yards. Really want to see it knitted up - maybe a baby sweater? A top-down raglan would be nice mindless knitting for movies and the car.School starts Aug 19th, so I have some mall death marches coming up. Ugh! 4 years until M graduates and then no one can ever drag me off school shopping again.
